BOWIE & DICK TEST SHEETS

Type 2 ISO 11140-1.

• Will check if your vacuum pump is correctly working or if there is a leakage in your autoclave.

TEST SIGNIFICANCE

Bowie & Dick tests should be performed in a daily basis in order to check the performance not only of the vacuum pump but also if there is no air leakage in the system.Finaly a correct dry steam penetration will show a positive result obtaining a solid black final colour.
The procedure to follow is: insert one Bowie & Dick test sheet in the center of a normalized cloth package.
Cotton towels which have been previously cleaned , aired and not pressed will be put together to make a package sizes: 220 mm x 300 mm and 250 mm high weighing aproximately 7.0 kg +/- 10%. Right in the center the B&D sheet is placed.
The autoclave needs to be previously preconditioned with a cycle which needs to be performed totally empty. This will provide some heat into the system specialy at winter time.
Thepackageisthenplaced ,with no otherloads. The cycle is then performed at 134°C during 3.5 minutes.
The package is then opened and the sheet is exposed. A final black colour will be showing that all parameters have been fulfilled. Any other variation can be checked with the colour chart and will give you an idea of what parameter is not attained.
